When xixnet was first started we charged $19.00 a month for internet service. XIX is the Roman
Numerals for 19.
We pronounce it "x i x net dot com" not "nineteen net".
Here are some other interesting facts about the number 19.
19 is a prime number.
To talk `nineteen to the dozen' is to talk `the hind legs off a donkey' or to talk `a blue streak'.
In the game of cribbage 19 is an impossible hand.
19 is a centered hexagonal number. These are numbers which can be arranged into a
pattern of concentric hexagons, as in the illustration. There are a series of numbers that can be arranged like
this - 7, 19, 37, 61, 91, 127, 169 ...
You will always get a centered hexagonal number if you take a triangular number, multiply it by six and add one.
This pattern of 19 circles is easy to make with coins.
It shows that 19 is a centered hexagonal number'.

The World Wide Web is comprised of millions of servers housing billions of the
"Web pages" you view with your browser.
These servers communicate with each other via the Internet
using Hypertext Transfer Protocol (http).
A link is an item on a web page, normally text or an image, that you can
click on with your left mouse button to take you to another Web Page. Text links
text links are normally underlined. Links you have already visited are
normally shown in a different color than links you have not clicked on. Image
links normally don't distinguish between visited and non-visited links.
An example of a link is Back to Menu.
Most browsers do not require you to type in the http:// part. or even the www. So, just position your cursor in the
text field, remove the current URL and enter in the URL of the site you wish to visit.
The domain name is the base address of a Web site. For instance, the URL of the page you are
on right now is:
http://www.xixnet.com/faq-gen.shtml
The protocol is http (Hypertext Transfer Protocol)
The domain name is: xixnet.com
The web site is: www
The web page is: faq-gen.shtml
The shtml extension means it an html page that uses server side code in it.
Server side means the code is ran hear on the xi9xnet.com server and is
sent to your browser as html.
html is the acronym for Hypertext Markup language.

This depends on how you have your Browser cache configured. The Browsers cache is a space on your Hard Drive reserved
for storing Internet content as you visit Web pages. If you re-visit a page that has content in your cache the content
will NOT be reloaded from the Internet but will come straight from your hard drive. The cache has several configuration
knobs that can make a BIG difference in the speed that web sites appear on your computer monitor. The two knobs that
make the most difference is the size of the cache and the "Check for newer versions of stored pages" setting. The size
of the cache depends on the size of your Hard Drive. We suggest something in the 10 Mb to 50 Mb range.
The best setting for checking for new pages is "Automatic".
These settings can be found by selecting the "Tools/Internet Options" menu selection from you Internet Explorers menu.
There are several reasons for this, which are: Some links are programmed to open in a new window. If this happens just
close the new windows and our page will still be in your previous browser window, others remove all frames from the
current window and load in there place. Others do this and also remove all Back button information for the current
session, so your back button goes gray and will not work to take you back from were you came. If this happens just click
the
"Home" button on your Browser.
Sorry, we have no control over these behaviors, if any of them bother you too much feel free to contact the webmaster
of the site causing the problem.
In some versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer the BACK button changes only the Gutter Frames around
the main area of the web page. We are working on a solution for this bug, and will update the web site
as soon as we can.
Until then you can press the BACK button three times and it will get you back to the previous page. You'll
notice as you press the back button (If your going to a page that has different gutters) the left gutter will
change, then the top gutter, then finally the page.
