Summers at the �鶹�� are very busy. Three of our high school programs offer online courses during the academic year and top performing scholars in each program are invited to attend a one-week academy at a NASA Center. What does a good �鶹�� research paper look like? The 2018-2019 Graduate and Undergraduate Research �鶹�� Scholarship winning papers are now posted online. The subjects include research in a variety of �鶹�� fields including chemistry, biology, astronomy, engineering, physics and atmospheric sciences. In the photograph above, ODU’s George McLeod presents his research at the VSGC Student Research Conference. His topic is the characterization of uncertainty in inundation models and watershed hypsometry for identification and assessment of non-linear impacts of sea level rise.

NASA invites you to participate in a live event for college students discussing The Future of Space. This is an insightful discussion with NASA leadership including Administrator Jim Bridenstine to prepare you as we go Forward to the Moon…to stay. As the next generation of explorers, we need you to make that possible! Mark your calendar for April 29 at 2 p.m. EST time and come find your place in space!

Students will be able to ask questions during a live Earth-to-space call with NASA astronauts �����Ի���, currently serving as part of the Expedition 59 crew aboard the International Space Station.

The event, intended to inspire the next generation of �鶹�� explorers skilled in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math, will air live on NASA Television and the agency’s . It also will stream live on �����Ի���. Viewers can submit questions during the event using the hashtag #askNASA.

The Antares NG-11 rocket launched successfully Wednesday from the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport at Wallops Island, Va. sending the Cygnus cargo spacecraft on its way to the International Space Station. Cygnus is carrying three Virginia CubeSat Constellation satellites to the ISS for subsequent deployment into orbit by onboard astronauts.  The mission is managed by the �鶹�� in collaboration with Old Dominion University, University of Virginia, Virginia Tech and Hampton University. UVA, ODU and Virginia Tech each developed one of the satellites and Hampton University developed a data analysis tool for the mission.

Wednesday was Aerospace Day at the Virginia General Assembly. Representatives from Virginia’s robust aerospace sector spent the day visiting legislators to promote economic opportunities, celebrate advancements and encourage legislative support for Aerospace in Virginia.

VSGC Director Mary Sandy and Deputy Director Chris Carter visited legislators along with Abby Dwelle, a Richmond high school senior who has participated in , , (VASTS) and is now in the (VESSS) program. VCU chemistry major Lilly Balderson, a participant in VSGC’s NASA Community College Research Experiences program, also participated.
